Ethics of Aviation in Indonesia: If We Don't, Who Will?
In the aviation community, there have been several decisions that have been made to create and maintain a high standard of safety in commercial air travel. However, in recent years the idea of ethical business has gained traction regarding aviation, particularly in Indonesia where multiple concerns regarding the safety and overall wellbeing of flight services have been brought to light. Some of those concerns include; flight safety, environmental damage, and professional ethics regarding substance amongst pilots and crew(Kania, 2018). It is my personal opinion that when involving services such as commercial flight, which moderately risks the lives of the passengers aboard, should be held to the highest standard. With Indonesia continuing to grow within the aviation community, it is imperative that these standards not remain but increase as popularity grows, however the concerns of aviation practice continues to rise as more and more cases of ethical dilemmas appear.
I chose this topic for my discussion post because I find that aviation safety is one of, if not the most important aspect of aviation, let alone commercial air travel. In my personal opinion, I believe that following events of mishaps and issues regarding these ethical issues, I think there needs to be a change in safety regulation management. There needs to be an increased level of security or pre-evaluation regarding all aspects of high capacity commercial travel, not only for the passengers but for the flight crew, that inspections should be made not only at the minimum requirement but should be made with the intention to ensure that no discrepancies slip through the cracks. Complacency tends to take hold when not constantly monitored and as faults emerge there needs to be a change in practice and additions made to prevent situations or mishaps from occurring. Insanity is described as "doing something multiple times but expecting a different result", and it seems that this seems to be the case in different communities of aviation, which cannot be allowed to happen, not only for the safety of the crew and passengers, but the safety of everyone in the flight path.
